BWW Architect's was founded in March 2022 by Director Benjamin Wood. The practice focus is on establishing, maintaining, and enhancing sense of place.

Nostalgia is the word to describe sense of place. The Latin for Nostalgia is Nostos which means 'TO RETURN HOME'. We feel that this is important to our practice and its design approach as it is a empathetic view of the world that puts YOU at its foremost.

Our ideas on sustainability and design ecompass this sense of returning home. We try to focus on sourcing local materials and promoting local craftsmanship. This reduces material miles, supports local businesses, and creates buildings that are contextual no matter their design.

Four key words we use to try to channel this sense of home are Light, Colour, Scale and Texture. These four attributes to our architecture use theories of composition found in many of the art and folk stories that inspire our architecture.

LIGHT:

There are different LUX patterns wherever you are in the world. This is formed by the light intensity of natural light and therefore light is beautifully unique to your home. Capturing the light and controlling its beauty within your home is our goal.

COLOUR:

We use colour to help define how we look and perceive the world. Colour helps form composition through focal points and depth. We use colour to help compose the sense of place through using these as main themes to your design.

SCALE:

Scale and form are a product of the natural world. We believe that our architecture should be symbiotic with nature by having a composition that is naturally balanced. Golden ratios within our design help form a language of architecture that helps place our buildings within its landscape.

TEXTURE:

We believe in the purity of materials. Using materials to enhance their natural patina and character. To design within an analogue framework brings interest and intrigue to our design. Controlling texture helps enhance the composition, light and colour of a space as well as giving it additional depth and form.

Homeliness is discovered in both residential and commercial buildings. Society has changed over the past years where the boundaries of both are now blurred. Therefore, it is important that both embrace the character of their users and the natural environment they reside in. This design ethos aims to enrich peoples' lives through understanding their buildings' needs.
